In April 2022, Vault Business acquired Maltby Philip & Co, an accounting firm based in Moree and Bingara.

The firm was originally established by Phil Maltby, a veteran of the accounting industry with over 40 years of experience working in regional New South Wales. Mr. Maltby has been based in Bingara since the late 1980s and in Moree since 1991.

Moree is an emerging tourist destination that is definitely worth a visit. Although it is not as well-known as some of NSW’s other small towns, you will be surprised by some of the unique things to do and places you can explore when visiting Moree.

By taking a walk down Balo Street located in Moree’s town centre, you get an opportunity to admire a beautiful collection of Art Deco buildings. These buildings were originally built between 1920 and 1939, and each of the restored historic buildings is unique in its own design.

Moree also has some of Australia’s most fertile soil, which is perfect for growing pecan nuts. Trawalla Farm, located 35 kilometers from Moree, produces 95 percent of Australia’s pecan crop. The farm can be visited on a pre-booked guided tour and is super popular with people who visit the region.

Moree is one of Australia’s most successful agricultural regions. With so much produce being generated in the region, there is so much great food to consume. Moree on a Plate is a yearly food, wine, and arts festival that showcases the best of the region’s produce. Held during the month of May, the festival includes cooking demonstrations, classes, and competitions.

“Moree like most rural communities has had its ups and downs, but the last few years it has been great to see consistent rains and a buzz of enthusiasm. Similarly, to Moore, Bingara has such a community and it is something that I am going to miss. The travel has been great and it is something that I am going to miss, nothing can replace the face to face with clients, it’s lucky that Craig, Craig and Tyler are happy to jump in a car,” says Phil Maltby.

After working as an accountant for over 4 decades, Phil has decided to resign as the head of “Maltby Philip & Co” but will continue to spend the next 12 months assisting with audits for another year before officially deciding to completely retire.

In conjunction with being part of Vault Group, the firm will also be taken over by Julie and Debbie, who have already been working for Phil for a number of years.

“I’m glad to be handing over the practice to a capable team, that Julie and Debbie are staying can give you confidence that you are in safe hands. I’ll be sad to be finishing up, but I am still being involved in the audits for the foreseeable future, I am looking forward to finally getting a chance to spend more time with family and friends,” says Phil Maltby.

Bingara has a population that is even smaller than Moree with only 1,300 people living there. Bingara is located in a tranquil valley on the banks of the Gwydir River. Bingara is full of fascinating gold rush heritage. Best known as a historic gold and diamond mining town, it is also a perfect place for outdoor adventure, and a great place for fossicking and fishing.

Bingara over the years has become a popular town for retirees with over 57 percent of the town’s population aged over 55.
